Apple remote no longer works with mountain lion

I'm having the same issues. Remote does not work with quicktime or itunes. I cannot pair it. Funnily enough, however, the remote still seems to work with EyeTV!

Having the same issue since the upgrade to Mountain Lion my Apple Remote which worked flawlessly for six months using Lion is now unpairable.

Having the same issue. Thought the battery is empty but that's not the problem.

Any solutions? :-/

THIS POST says you apparently need to be logged in as an Admin to pair the remote first.

I don't understand it, but my remote is actually working again now - I can change the system volume, and operate both itunes and quicktime. I didn't do anything special, it all just works again!

I thought I had a problem pairing my aluminium Apple remote with EyeTV, but all turned out fine.

When I clicked Preferences --> Security & Privacy --> General --> Advanced --> Pair a message told to press the "Menu and Next" buttons until the remote paired with the computer. At first, I assumed this meant that I should press the two black buttons underneath the main, circular control, but nothing happened.

Then it struck me that the "Next" button might mean the right arrow on the main, circular control, so I held down this while holding the Menu button (the smaller button, below and to the left of the main, circular control), and the remote paired within a few seconds!

I don't have one of the older, white Apple remote controls to test this idea with, but something similar may also work with that remote.

I do have a White Apple Remote and can confirm that this method does not work. Not sure why - it was working perfectly up untill about a week ago but not I cannot pair it, control system volume or anything else. It does work with Plex though...

This makes absolutely no sense....

Found the problem: Plex seems to automatically make itself the only usable app with the Apple Remote. When I went into Plex > System > Input Devices and changed it from Standard to Disabled it started working again with OS X no problem. Pairing, Volume, iTunes - everything works again...

This is good! Between us, we seem to have solved the problem of using Apple remotes with EyeTV.

(I hadn't been using my aluminium remote, because it didn't seem to work with EyeTV. This situation brought me here in the first place, but since finding the solution I use the remove all the time.)

Now we just have to ask the original poster (Jono.carn)whether these solutions work for him and ask him to update the solution. Also, we should also check the half a dozen forums with similar titles and update their solutions. I'll try to send out some emails (if possible) today.

as far as i am aware I do not have plex (never even heard of it)

so... i have mountain lion and apple remote but no function of the menu button but the remote does have battery power and can control basic itunes functionality using play/ffwd etc
