2012 Retina Macbook Pro WiFi problem

I have a 2012 Macbook Pro with Retina display that's been upgraded to Mountain Lion. It is having WiFi connection issues.

Specifically,

1. Upon startup it will not find the network. I have to turn off the wifi and turn it back on to have it find the network. Annoying. It used to happen only intermittently; now it happens every start up. It's getting worse.

2. It will randomly every few hours drop the wifi connection, requiring me to turn off the wifi and turn it back on.

I've tried the one fix people on here suggested: deleting the wifi network profile I use and putting it back in.

Didn't make a difference.

Has anyone found a better fix?

I'm disappointed that Apple released this version of OS with such a glaring problem. A laptop without a reliable wifi connection is a complete waste of money.

Ipad, iPhone OS 3.1.3

I have the same problem. Unfortunately this is a common problem when it comes to Apple notebooks. My MacBook has the same problem. I have had this problem in Snow Leopard, Lion and Mountain Lion. Some of my friends share the same problem. If you haven't harmed your MacBook in any way then bring to an Apple store, they could fix it for free if the problem was caused during the production process.

It's not a manufacturing problem...it's a system software problem.

I've never had this problem with any other version of OSX...lion, snow leopard, etc.

I've done some more research.

Turning off the bluetooth seems to stop the intermittent drops and it does seem to connect upon startup (so far.)

I don't use the bluetooth much on the MBP but it is annoying when I will want to use it.

Happening to me too. Macbook Pro Retina Display with Mountain Lion. I'm experience occassional drops while actively working on my Macbook that requires me to turn off Wireless and turn it back on to get a connection. I've noticed this twice in two days.

I'm had my Macbook for about a week and immediately installed Mountain Lion, so I don't have a previous version to compare with. I could turn off Bluetooth at the moment, because I'm not using any Bluetooth devices, but it is likely I will be getting a bluetooth device in the future, then this workaround won't be useful.

I hope Apple can come up with a software patch?

This is the exact problem I am having. Wifi is connected, but packets randomly start dropping every few minutes.

Bluetooth has been completely disabled so that is not the issue.

Purchased a new dual-band router and the problem persists on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz.

I don't know what else to try besides returning this thing. The answer also shouldn't be "buy an Airport" since no other device besides the Retina has any issues using wifi.

Same here ... i am sitting next to a wideband router and all my air and mbp drop wifi every few minutes. The signal strength stays full, but there is no internet or a tremendous lag in loading pages etc.

What a disaster -- I told myself years ago I would never update an os without waiting, and the one time i breakthe rule, i am paying for it ...

+1 to the wifi issues on a brand new MBPr. it's kinda actually driving me nuts with how long it takes to load a simple web page on my own home wifi network. my iPad and appleTV2 load things just fine on the same network, so i am pretty confident it isn't the network that is the problem.

also, i've experienced it on other wifi networks, soooooo i'm pretty sure i can blame the MBPr. 😠

I have this problem too; however, I do not have bluetooth enabled so I can't turn it off to resolve the problem.

I am very disappointed that I paid a small fortune for my 2012 Macbook Pro Retina Display and the Wifi ***** like this. In my case, when my laptop sleeps, it drops the WiFi network signal and can't find it automatically; I have to toggle the WiFi on and off.

unfortunatelly, I have just come across the same issues as described here but with a little extra twist. MBP retina, 16GB RAM, 256 GB HDD. I have installed Lion upon its release and never had a noticable wireless issue until the last 2-3 weeks.

Wireless keeps dropping or fully dissappears. Turning it on or off doesn't change anything - it'll keep searching for a while, then tries to connect for another while and end up with "no Internet connection". This might go on for anything between 5 and 30 minutes (note: 2 iphones, 1 PS Vita, 1 bm air all use the same routera and experience no drop or issue). If it connects, loading times can range up to 2 minutes for a site (e.g. google.com). What I have found is, that clicking on sleep mode and immediately pressing a key to get it back resolves the issue for a short while (turning wifi on and off doesn't). It's a little odd and as many others wrote: a machine for that price shouldn't come with issues of that sort... I am very dissappointed.

Bluetooth was never enabled, so that can't be it. I have tried everything else described above and in various other forums.
