IPod nano question

I play my IPod Nano, 6th generation (purchased 1 month ago) thru a Yamaha receiver using a USB cord. It has been working fine until recently...after playing the IPod for several hours the music becomes distorted. This distortion only occurs with the IPod...the sound quality for TV, DVD etc is perfect. Any thoughts?
