How do I find the size of my JPEG photos

I want to find the size of my JPEG photos so I know how many photos I can fit per GB on my flashdrive.

I know that my photos are in the "all images" section, on the left side of my "Mcintosh HD" dialogue box, a box which contains just about everything in my computer.

I click on "all images" and then a list of all my photos show up in the dialogue box. Then I can click on a photo and it will show the photo, but not the size of the photo. I would like to know the size of my photos, ie how may MBs per photo. (Let's say I find out a typical photo I have has 2.3 MBs. Then I can divide 1000 by 2.3 and that gives me the number of photos per GB in my flash drive.) Thanks.

The first answer worked but the second didn't.

Second answer: I selected a photo in iphoto but there is no "show info" tab or anywhere to show the info. It just did not show the size. Clicking the "i" info in the bottom right of the photo did not show the size.

The first answer about Finder worked. It did show the size of the photos. Thanks.

I was curious about something. All of my photos are in JPEG format with the same camera. A lot of my photos are about 5 MBs in size, give or take a little. But a lot are only about 16 KBs - 446 KBs, most of those smaller ones averaging about 40 KBs. I also have a lot of photos that are about 2 MBs. Why is there such a discrepancy in photo size? It is the same camera and the same JPEG format.

I'm using iPhoto 11 Version 9.3.2

Highlight or open a photo. In iPhoto 11, at the bottom right there is an i/info tab.

Selecting info should give you a window similar to this.

As for the difference in file sizes there can be a few possibilities.

1) you may have periodically changed the resolution settings in the camera

2) you may have resized/scaled or edited the original photos

I have iphoto '09 version 8.1.2 (424).

As I mentioned, clicking on the "i" in the bottom right of any of the photos in iPhoto did not give the photo size.

Maybe that is done only in later versions of iphoto.

Regarding finding the file size of my photos:

The first answer by Joe about Finder worked. But now I see it is dangerous to use finder. If I can't use finder, and if clicking the "i" in the bottom right of the photo in iphoto '09 will not reveal this info, how do I find out the size of the photo? Where should I look?

Here is a link to an iPhoto 9 tutorial I found. See page 1 number 3. According to this tutorial the info button is on the left side of the Toolbar in iPhoto 9. It also states that the info button will give you the file size of a photo. So I do not know why you can't see the file size of your photos. I went back and looked on my old G4 running iPhoto 5 and the info button showed the file size of photos, as it does in iPhoto 11.

As LarryHN said, the Finder is a dangerous method for searching thru the iPhoto Library. It's easy to corrupt the Library by moving, editing or deleting files. All of that should be done within the iPhoto App. But the Finder is not dangerous if used for photos on the Desktop, the Users Pictures Folder or other Folders you created.

I found it now. You're right that you have to look at the info icon in the toolbar on the bottom far left under the photo. It is the second icon, a blue icon and the letter "i". It does show the file size. I did not know about that. I had been looking at the letter "i" in the bottom right of the foto. That is an information button but it does NOT show the file size. So there are two information buttons, and I only knew about one, which is why I could not find the file size. (I was not making this up, the "i" button in the bottom right of the foto does not show the file size).

I'm still surprised at the different sizes for photos I take on vacation. Same camera and I never resized them (at least not intentionally). Photo sizes go from 145 KB to over 5 MB.
