cannot access .mac account

cannot access .mac account

I just upgraded to Mountain Lion and want to use iMessage. To do so a verification email was sent to my myemail@mac.com. The myemail@mac.com also happens to me my Apple ID. So I have a .mac Apple ID but a .me iCloud email address. From what I have seen on another post I should have my .mac email as an alias in my iCloud account so I can get that verification email. I do not see my .mac email address as an alias and do not know where to go from here. Thanks for the help.

Mac.com and me.com are the same account (assuming the name before the @ is the same). Email sent to either address will arrive at the same place.

What do you mean?, you have a .me address and a .mac address but the part before the @ sign is not the same?

Then you have 2 different email addresses, me@me.com and me@mac.com are the same address, me@me.com and you@me.com are different addresses, use one or the other. Or set both accounts and use either.

Ah, so you have something like xxx@me.com and yyy@mac.com. Then of course they are different accounts. You need to set both up in your mail app in order to access both accounts.
