This computers local hostname is already in use?

Sorry--I missed that first time around. I think you would do better by reposting in the Forum for OS10.5. You have a software issue and that forum will have more software gurus. Machine-specific forums are better for hardware issues, but I think your hardwre is probably fine.

If you wish, I can ask the Hosts to move this for you so you need not do anything. Let me know.

I am experiencing the same exact issue as P Rocka. Has anyone figured out what is going on?

I am getting the same message. This started happening after I upgraded to Mt. Lion. It only happens when the iMac goes into sleep mode after being inactive for a while. Was anyone able to figure out a solution to this?

I have a 27 inch Mid 2010 iMac 2.8 GHz Intel i5.

r0ckstar, you have a much newer iMac than the ones in this forum (pre-2006) that cannot run any higher os than 10.5.8. You should ask in the Mtn Lion forums here:

I too am experiencing this issue. I saw the following suggestion on an identical issue submitted by another Apple user last month:

"You have two simultaneous connections to the same local network: probably Ethernet and Wi-Fi. Disconnect the Ethernet cable or turn off Wi-Fi. If that's not the issue, shut down any virtual machines (Parallels, VMware, or VirtualBox) that are running. Rename the computer in the Sharing preference pane."

We are also experiencing this issue as well. Our student laptops are not connected via an ethernet cable. I have yet to find a solution. It happens when the students close the lid, go to another class, and then open the lid. However, it is not universal (ie not happening to all students).
