can't install printer drivers not from App store

Downloaded fresh drivers for OS10.8 from printer mfg site. I needed to install Java. Did

The printer software is .jar format.

I get error message trying to install - can't install because the aps are not from the Apple store and Brother is not an approved Apple store vendor (o some such message)

Is there a preference I can set to install allow downloads not from Ap store ?

OS X Mountain Lion

If your printer is supported in 10.8, don't download the drivers from the printer vendor or through the App store. Use the add printer function in System Preferences Print & Scan to download and install the driver from Apple.

ML will recognize that you have a printer attached and powered up and will then prompt you whether you want to download the proper drivers.

My printer has worked fine up until my wireless router was swapped out for a different one and now i have not been able to connect it to my MBP... Up until today, it could not even be found on the network by my mac, but today, miraculously it was found, but when i go to Sys Pref>Print&Scan>Add printer, it finds updates and asks me if i want to install and i click yes, it does it's thing finding the software and then tells me it is unavailable at this time from the App Store.... Could this just be a temporary thing or what? Don't quite understand the problem. It is an HP Photosmart c4580 that is supported by OS X ML and it worked just fine with Lion. I have a windows laptop too, that it works with just fine as well. Any ideas?
