I have a MacBook pro 3,1. It suddenly quit responding and it was powered down. Now when booting up the screen has various colored rectangles and the spinning wheel stops after about 1 minute.

I have a MacBook pro 3,1. It suddenly quit responding and it was powered down. Now when booting up the screen has various colored rectangles and the spinning wheel stops after about 1 minute.

I booted in verbose mode and it seems to hang at the eth1 device. I tried booting with the command R but the spinning circle stops after about 1 minute. Has anyone seen anything like this? How should I best proceed?

Maybe of course it's been nearly 5 years since I purchased it. What's really concerning is that I can't even get to the disk utility menu. But then if the video adapter is failing then I could see why. Thanks for the reply.
