Older version of imovie

Recently I had a hard drive failure and had to replace my HDD and all the apps on it. I used App Store to re-download imovie and it says its only available with osx 10.7. since I am on an older imac, that doesnt support 10.7 how can i get an older version of imovie (the early version of 9 worked just fine for me) without having to upgrade my ram and upgrade my osx?

my system is a late 2006 imac running 10.6.8 with 1 GB of Ram. Although it is old my system suits my needs perfectly.

Thank you

I'm switching from OS X 10.6 to 10.8 and intend to keep using iMovie HD 6.0.3 and iDVD with my DV projects.

iLife '06 installer can't run in OS X 10.8 so I must either:

a) 1st install iLife '06 while booted in OS X 10.6. Then copy /Applications/iMovie HD.app and /Library/Application Support/iMovie to the same places in OS X 10.8. Or:

b) Use Pacifist ($20) to open the iMovie HD 6 install packages from the iLife '06 installer DVD (iMovie.pkg and iMovieThemes_Tiger.pkg) and let Pacifist install them to the right places.

iLife '06's iDVD 6.0 (or 6.0.4) does not work in OS X 10.8 so I must install iDVD 7.0.4 (and iPhoto 8.1) from the "Applications Install Disc" DVD that came bundled with my Mac mini. Remember to choose "iDVD extra content" which installs iDVD 1-5 themes in addition to the default iDVD 6-7 themes. No need for Pacifist with this install.

iMovie HD 6.0.2 and 6.0.3 as well as iDVD 7.1.2 and iPhoto 8.1.2 updaters also work without Pacifist. AFAIK iMovie HD 6.0.4 is identical to v6.0.3.

So far all those old apps seem to work OK in OS X 10.8.

Oh, and BTW I had to grab iSync from OS X 10.6 for use with my ancient Nokia E70 "smartphone", too.

The best place for the program is:

/Applications/iMovie HD

Apple's updaters dislike any renaming, but after the final v6.0.3 update you can rename iMovie HD, if you like (I renamed it "iMovie HD 6.0.3" before installing iMovie 8 just to be sure it was not overwritten; I also made a copy to another folder to be extra-sure). Anyway, I don't like newer iMovie versions...

iMovie HD has also some support files (themes) at /Library/Application Support/iMovie.

I also have iMovie 4.0.1.app in /Applications because it has some nifty features and I didn't want my iMovie HD 6 updates to overwrite it.

Have you been able to get the version you paid for yet?

I have the same issue. I backed up the software, yet when I moved the saoftware back over after installing the new hard drive it won't work. I have tried for almost a year to get help from Apple, both via e-mail and in person at Apple Stores that I find in my travels. the closest one is 1.5 hours away, so can't just go in an talk to them when I feel like it.

I e-mailed customer service, and they said it was a technical issue that I would have to pay for tech support to receive the help... help that I know would probably just state I was out of luck.

This download only policy is the worst idea I have ever seen from a company, and the customer service related to it is horrible. When someone buys software, they should own it... if someone is leasing software (which it seems is happening now), people should be told in big bold letters and be able to have the option to buy a disc... Just like movies and music.
