I'm looking for an application or plug in that can tell me how much free space I have available on my hard drive left for my MacBook Air, thanks so much!

You don't need any additional software for that. Just right click on the HD icon and choose Get Info.
The other way to do this is to choose About this Mac under the Apple menu. When the window appears, click on system report and choose memory from the selection of tabs.
