Q: Cannot install iTune update 10.6.3

Message I get when trying to update iTune 10.6.3

The update cannot be verified. It may have been corrupted during downloading. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs.

I tried closing iTune and opening again and checking software update again but everytime the same message appears.

Please advise.

Thanks.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

With that one, I'd try updating using a .dmg installer downloaded from the Apple Website:

I just bought a brand new MacBook Pro. Says iTunes found an update for 10.6.3 and then when I click download update a bar shows up and goes from left to right saying checking for software and then says your software is up to date when it didn't even do anything. Then I go to the upper left hand menu and click on about iTunes just to confirm and it still says it's on 10.6.2

I had the same problem trying to update to iTunes 10.6.3

         - The update cannot be verified. It may have been corrupted during downloading. etc

Also running OS X 10.7.4 (on a MacBook).

Also solved same way - downloaded dmg.installer from apple site.

Thanks for the info. It seems like that's the way most people are doing it but I just loaded all my songs into iTunes a few days ago and wonder if I have deauthorized the computer and then reloaded them on again from my external hard drive. I just bought this brand new and first iTunes glitch so definitely not a computer problem. I also wonder if I go to the iTunes site if this is going to layer over the existing iTunes because instead of updating your installing the installation from scratch again whether it put double the junk on your computer. Might just sit this one out until the next update. I have a feeling something wasn't right with it and they removed the update, at least that's what I heard.

    Hi guys,

I followed your advises, but I still can't update iTunes from 10.6.1 to 10.6.3.

I downloaded the .dmg file from Apple but it doesn't open the installation. When I click on the package file "Install iTunes" only the FLAT PACKAGE EDITOR screen opens and I can only see a list of files and folders.

    Where did I fo wrong?

    Some suggestions?

    Thanks to all

I can't believe Apple still hasn't fixed this. I get the corruption issue on every machine I try (over 20 recently with everything from 10.6 up). This seems to have been going on for over a month now. Pitiful, really.

In answer to your question, you either did get a corrupted download, or you have the wrong app set to open .pkg files. Fix it by hitting CMD-I while you have the package selected, and in the get info window there will be a drop down under Open With (you may have to drop the triangle down to see it). Make sure installer is selected, then click the change all button and you're fixed.

    Hi,

thanks for your suggestion, but it seems I'm still missing something.

As you suggested Iooked inside the GET INFO window and in the OPEN WITH section the FLAT PACKAGE EDITOR was selected. i tried to change this application, but I couldn't something similar to an installer.

Again when I try to double clock on the INSTALL ITUNES icon, a window showing some .pkg file is shown and no installation starts.

    Where am I woring?

    Thanks again.
