I have downloaded OS X Mountain lion on to my OS X Snow leopard mac to find is says "an error occurred,please try again"

Please assist

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Have you thoroughly checked if your machine has all the facilities required by Mountain Lion ... Intel core 2 Duo, 2GB memory (4GBpreferred) etc.

Minimum specs for Mountain Lion. http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
