Can you give more details on the hard drive? Is it formatted in HFS+? Is it self-powered or does it have it's own power supply? Did you partition/format in OSX? Brand of drive?
sorry for the late reply. My HDD was fomatted in NTFS, and it's a external 2.5" WD element. i formatted this HDD to NTFS because i need to transfer files bigger than 4gb from Windows.
Do i need to format it to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) for it to be detected?
Please advise.

Yes, the USB port on the AirPort Extreme will support that format. It does not support NTFS or exFAT.
Keep in mind that the USB port on the Extreme is not high powered, like on a computer. You may need to use a powered USB hub with your setup....even if the hard drive has its own power supply.
Mine works fine without the powered USB hub but I've read that other people need it.
For the USB formatting requirements here are the specs: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2426?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Thanks all for the helps !
