Roger, appreciate the info. I think Walker was being facetious, not literally saying he paid for the cloud-- just that he got it!
Now, I, too, discovered that my recently purchased iPad 2 registered me with iCloud --and Games Center-- even though I don't recall making those choices. I think what happened was that in setting up the iPad 2, it asked me if I wanted to use Wi-fi-- well, of course, I do--but I think it was asking me about synching to the iCloud, something I definitely do NOT want to do.
In fact, I've made a point of not setting that up on any of my Apple gear as I don't my stuff stored elsewhere and don't want to have my devices drained for other purposes.
Still, when I checked today to see what was going on, I discovered that other of my Apple devices, but not all, had somehow been associated with iCloud.
I do not know what's going on--why it happened--or even what having a device associated with iCloud means (does something still have to be turned on?). I definitely remember checking DO NOT USE ICLOUD as shown in this

It was an unexpected surprise. I'm hoping that your information leads will help explain it and guide me through dis-associating and stopping Games Center!
