It seems that if you copy text into the editor that came from a source with a different font then that font will stick for the rest of the email document. I discovered this by copying in something from notes and then had a new font for the rest of the email.

I have not tried it but perhaps you could have a document with a bit of text in several fonts. Copy the appropriate fonted text and the paste into the email.

This solution does not seem very Apple to me.

This is my single biggest beef with iOS.

The following just increases your default size in iPhone; doesn't fix this issue.

Go to Settings>General>Accessibility>Large Text

Even after doing this, if I copy over a URL from let's say safari into Mail, it gets posted in smaller size. So my email text now has different sizes. The only work around I have found is drafting the email in a different editor and then pasting back into mail. And this wastes a lot of time.

Now interestingly, on iPad with same iOS version, I can copy urls from safari into Mail and they come across in the same font size as my mail message.

iOS 6.1 on both iPad and iPhone.

The only way I have been able to customize the font by anything other than the size is by using the signature line. If you have an email signature that is customized with a specific color, select the font in a received email on your device and copy it. Go into setting and edit your signature. Paste the copied text. the font will default to black and white. shake the phone and "undo change attributes" and is will revert to the colored fonts. You can also paste a dash at the very top of your signature and when you compose an email just backspace the dash and begin typing. This will allow you to have a different color when you are typing your entire message.

Rabra, thats a good idea. Also along the same lines, if you simply wanted to change back to the original font after pasting something from another document, you can select some random text from elsewhere in the email that you are editing, paste that after the text that caused the font change, and you're back to normal again. This can be done without having to keep a document with various fonts in it.

I wanna also say, I think this issue stems from Apple's minimalist philosophy. Less is more, and simple is beautiful. So there is no pulldown context menu to clutter up your screen (and therefore nowhere to stick a font-change menu selection). It's a philosophical issue taken to extremes, and you cant win a philosophical argument against Steve Jobs, even after he is gone! I'm not dissing the guy. I think he was absolutely brilliant with all the amazing ideas he brought to market. But like all eccentric brilliant people, he had some quirks that sometimes get to you.
