Q: Aperture projects are not available as screen savers or desktop pictures

I have been unable to get any Aperture projects to display as destop pictures or screensavers in System Prferences.  I am using OSX 10.8 and the most current version of Aperture.  I have set the pereference in Aperture to "share previews with iLife applications."  I have also rebuit my library. My Aperture library lives on an external Firewire drive but it doesn't seem to matter if I use a local library or one on the external drive: no projects are displayed in the System Preferences Desktop and Screensavers panel.  Aperture is displayed but no projects like iPhoto.  What is the solution to this.  I posted this problem some time ago but there were no solutions.  I figured that if I updated my System and Aperture the problem would be solved but it hasn't.

OS X Mountain Lion, Aperture 3.3.2, Adobe CS 4

Do you have previews generated for your photos?  Double check that the pictures actually have previews, as they are what is actually shared to the OS.

    Morgan,

have you tried to remove your Aperture Preferences? The Media Browser looks in this file for the Aperture Library to use. If you preferences file is corrupted in some way, it may still be pointing to an empty library.

For how to remove the Preferences see the Aperture 3: Trouble Shooting Basics.

Log off and log on again, before you remove the preferences.

After that, launch Aperture agian, switch to a different Aperture Library, then back to the one you want to use.

Then try to select a Desktop and Screensver in system preferences. It takes some time, until the Aperture library will show up.

Also, your Aperture Library may be corrupted, Can you see other Aperture Libraries in the Screensaver selection, when you switch Aperture to a different library, created for testing? You will have to quit aperture, for this test to take effect.

If you find, that the Media Browser will show different Aperture libraries, but not your main library, repair the permissions and the database using the library first aid tools, as described in the Aperture 3: Trouble Shooting Basics.

    Regards

    Léonie

This is what worked for me:

In Aperture preferences look under the "Previews" tab make sure that the "Share previews with iLife and iWork" is set to either "Always" or "When quitting Aperture".

Log off and back on. Open Aperture and then go to System Properties. The Aperture Library should be back where it belongs.
