Good afternoon.

We have been trying to migrate our email to Mail (under OS 10.4.11) for months now.

One of us seems to be pretty reliable, save for the ability to receive SOME messages that have been known to be sent from another email application. Some of the emails make it to the inbox - some don't (no discernable pattern to acceptance or failure: size, content....).

Does anybody have any suggestions?

I'm getting to the point where I may just try something else if I can't figure this out! (which leads to the question: Is something like Outlook Express easier to deal with?)

Thanks for your time!

Hello,

Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.

Move this Folder to the Desktop...

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/

Move this file to the Desktop...

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index

Reboot.

If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup

Another option, Thunderbird...

Older versions of thunderbird...

I'm using the old v1.5 on Tiger, might be later ones.

On the ones not showing in the Inbox, try this...

Make a new Smart Mailbox that only includes Unread Mails, do they show in that Smartbox?

    Thanks for your reply.

Is Thunderbird more reliable and easier to setup? Good support for Mac users?

If not, and the above repair strategy for Mail doesn't work, can you advise how to delete and reinstall Mail 2.1.3 for 10.4.11?

Regards from Vermont, where it's still too hot!

    Thanks to the responders.

Would you believe that the solution lay in an unknown SPAM filter from my email provider? !!

MAIL was completly innocent in this case.

Regards from VT, where the humidity has finally broken (but for how long?).
