voiceover will not install
How to install VoiceOver in iTunes? It will not install for me. It goes through the process but then the checkbox "unchecks" itself. I've done a restore, etc. No help.

No error messages at all during installation? Are you running as the administrator of your PC? I assume you have the latest version of iTunes installed (10.6.3)?
What happens if you install the latest version over the existing one (even if it's already the latest version) and then try to install VoiceOver again?

No error messages of any kind during the install. Yes, I'm running as admin on my PC. And yes, I do have the latest version of iTunes installed. I did try to reinstall iTunes, that didn't help either. I did view the files on the shuffle to see what is there. It appears that the different language files are there. But as I stated previously, the checkbox in iTunes de-selects itself and doesn't allow me to change the language from English. And when I try to activate VoiceOver to have it give me the song info, etc., it mutes the music for a second but then just returns to normal volume.
What generation Shuffle do you have?
Perhaps you could have a look at some of the suggestions in this older thread.

I have the 4th generation. Just bought it a couple days ago to replace an older shuffle. I'll take a look at the thread you reference. Thanks.
Found a solution, granted it is 1.5 years old. Too bad Apple hasn't fixed this error yet. Anyway is the answer... iTunes copied the VoiceOver.dll to my root and NOT my iTunes library. Moved the .dll and it fixed it.

Ok, I was able to fix this. The solution in a nutshell is to have iPodVoiceOver.dll installed in the (whatever drive letter):\program files\itunes directory. Where all the other dll's are.
For example, I use windows 7 64 bit and have itunes installed on the c drive but my library is located on an external drive (f:)
Itunes was able to download the voiceover kit but it copied it to my c: root directory. I moved it over to c:\program files\itunes and voila it worked. I connected the shuffle and started itunes and it installed the kit to the shuffle. I'm now able to check and uncheck the voiceover feature and it works perfectly fine.
Glad to hear that. 🙂
