I've contacted Apple support twice by email now and they keep directing me to my Netherlands Apple Support phone number. Overthere they can't do anything for me as they can't find my order number, nor can their after-sales department...
Unfortunately it appears each country Apple Online Store keeps independent records and supposedly maintains its own online "history" database. Between the major wprld wide webs site update last year and the switch to App Store sales, it seems our QT Pro registration data history was allowed to simply "fall through the cracks."
The article you refer to specifically states that it is possible to retrieve a lost QuickTime Pro key by viewing the order history on one's account page on the Apple Online Store:
Seems to be a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing in the the people programming/posting the atricle pages don't seem know or did not check to see if the the people supposedly maintaining the online data did theeir job and made the data available. Hopefully, if enough QT Pro users send feedback regarding this issue, Apple may become motivated to correct the issue. My only major fear is that the actual server data may have been purged before someone gets around to looking into/fixing the problem.
I am not what you call a recent purchaser of QT Pro, but I DID pay €30 for it (in 2007 I believe) so it should be possible for me to retrieve the key.
Same here. Like many others, my use of QT Pro pre-dates QT 7 and having purchased mutiple keys in the past following "key loss" during certain Mac OS upgrades, this has become something of a pet peeve for me since now that I know they are supposed to keep these records available they no longer seem to be doing so.
