Error 1607 - Can't install new version of iTunes

Been having this problem forever, nothing seems to work. Everytime I try to install iTunes i get and Error: 1607. Also when I try to DownLoad the new version of iTunes from the internet, nothing seems to pop up. Is there a direct link I can type in to download the new version?

Any feed back is much appreciated! Thanks

Ok. I've bought my iPod about a month ago!!! And I still haven't been able to put music on it because of this error. Anytime I try to install iTunes. Weather it be off a disc or off the internet I get an Error: 1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting Runtime. I feel like I've tried almost everything with no success what so ever. I think there may be a problem with my windows installer since I am also unable to install Quicktime standalone or whatever. Same Error: 1607. Can someone please help???!!!!!

Thanks

hi Omar!

i haven't been following your case incredibly closely (everytime i've dropped by the various threads, it seemed like Katrina was giving you very sensible advice.) so do you mind just quickly running through explicitly the various things you've tried so far?

for example, i believe you've attempted the treatments for the various scenarios for the 1607 given here:

Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or QuickTime software in Windows

... but have you tried the InstallShield Tips and Pointers yet?

b noir, thanks for responding! You're right I have tried the trouble shooting which didn't seem to work.

I just finished going over the other steps for the InstallShield tips and pointers. I went over all the steps except for one which I couldn't do for some reason.

http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108379

Acquire Administrative Privileges on Your Computer
I followed each step, only when I get to the point where I'm supposed to click on Local users and Groups, there isn't a Local users and Groups folder in this section for me to click on. However I am the computer administrator.

One thing I noticed when I start my computer up I get a msg saying: HP OfficeJet COM Event Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvience. I'm sure this has nothing to do with the issue at hand, but I thought who knows, right?

Sigh. Maybe I missed a step somewhere. But I've gone over the trouble shooting and now these steps numerous times now, with still no success! =/

hi Omar!

okay ... we're going to start trying to work through some really exotic scenarios now.

when I start my computer up I get a msg saying: HP OfficeJet COM Event Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close.

interesting that it is mentioning COM.

can you look through the following document to check to see if you're getting any of the symptoms described on it? i've seen this problem linked with a 1607 on an itunes install before:

Systems that have changed the default Access Control List permissions on the %windir%\registration directory may experience various problems after you install the Microsoft Security Bulletin MS05-051 for COM+ and MS DTC

hi Omar!

sorry about that. let's try first checking to see if any of the event log messages mentioned in that document are showing up in your event viewer.

to check your event logs, right-click "My Computer", select "Manage" and click "Event Viewer". i think they are all "System" log entries, so click on that event log (you'll also see one called "Applications" and one called "Security").

to get more detailed information about suspicious-looking events, click on one to bring up a small window with expanded information.

... if nothing springs out at you there, let's try switching on your Windows Firewall, just to see if we can provoke the error message number that is mentioned on the document.

b noir, sorry for taking so long to get back! I've been in and out of town.

Ok so I clicked on the boxes to get more information and there seems to be ERRORS and WARNINGS in the box that pops up when I click Application.

"Success Audit" Is the only thing that pops up under Sequrity.

And there's also a few ERROR msgs under System.

??? Hope this helps to find a solution!

THANKS!!

y'know ... let's try roping in a bit of additional help with this one. you're actually about the only 1607 i've seen in ages that hasn't responded to the standard three sets of advice (and the Tips and Pointers). the Hosts and the Engineers might be interested to see if there's anything out there slipping through the net of the standard advice.

let's try getting a installer log to the Discussions Hosts, so they can throw it over the fence so an Apple engineer can have a look at it.

Start menu -> Run... In the text field of the dialog that comes up, type in "cmd" and hit return.

In the command prompt dialog that comes up, find the iTunes installer on your desktop and drag it to this window. Then on the same line type in a space and then the following:

/Verbose"c:\log.txt" /V"ENABLE_QTLOGGING=TRUE"

There is no space between the e in Verbose and the double quote ("). There is no space between the V"Enable...

Hit return.

The installer will create two log files:

C:\log.txt and C:\qt.log

Find those files and send them to a Discussions Host Put the URL to this discussion thread into the email, so that whoever gets it has some context. Let them know the version of itunes you’re trying to install, too … in general, give as much info as you can.
