You can get leading into a sight which may give your device problems, maybe safari will freeze for a certain time to there may be lagging but I don't think it will result in something as major as a virus. But if it does freeze and/or cause other small issues, then try to turn the device off and then on ;) the problem starter might be junk mail or faulty emails

Hope it helps

iPads do not get viruses - in the definition of a virus being a malicious program that propogates itself across your operating system. The 'sandbox' nature of hte iPad and the lack of a main file management system prohibitits that.

For anything to spread on your iPad you have to to take steps to make that happen....send dats from app to app.

The iPads can still fall victim to malicious links - such as if you get an e-mail with a bad link in it and tap on that link, you'll go to that bad site. I've also seen examples of google being hacked with bad links and you will see that on your google page (I've seen google result pages coming up with the links having good titles but if you look at the destinations you're being sent to sites in russia or china - which are rarely good sites)

You can also see ads that have been hacked to go to bad places...and if you tap on those ads you'll go there.

But the key is that any .exe programs you run into that are malicious can't run on the iPad. And if they try to browser hijack, they usually can't get too far because they try to run PC or Mac programs on iOS....and the device literally doesn't understand what they're trying to make it do.

So, no, as of this time there are no known viruses for the iPad (but I am sure some fine little souls are working diligently on trying to be the first to come up with one), but you can fall victim to bad stuff on the internet with the iPad (by clicking on bad links, seeing bad page or hacked ads)...and you can fall for phishing on the ipad.

but all of these require ome active participation on your part. You tap on a bad link, you enter info on a questionable site etc.

It is fairly safe, but you also need to practice good interneting habits.

I've got thrown into a pornsite when I've tried to axcess pages at yahoo and I have several friends who have had the same happen to them!!

See When I try to visit a web site, I get redirected to a different site!

Note that the page that is on is written primarily about Macs, but the information in the specific part of the page I linked to applies to any device. Except for the malware part, which doesn't apply to an iPad, as there is no malware for iOS.

Nope. I am using iPad2 io6. I don't think it is a hardware issue since I am using it right now. Although I am using already a private browsing mode in safari- thinking it is a web base malware. Anyway I am not a programmer but the way it prevented me from accessing the iPad and opening of camera and safari browser apps seems like a virus or malware behavior and or a hack.

Many things seem like they must be malware to those who don't know better. We see such posts very frequently. However, the fact is, there are only two malware programs for iOS, and both require that the device be jailbroken. You cannot possibly be infected by either if it is not jailbroken.

It's possible, if you were eventually able to reset the device, that this was simply a software glitch, but keep in mind that hardware problems can be sporadic.

In any event, this discussion isn't really relevant to this particular topic, which involved a different problem an hasn't been active for 3 months. You would be best off to start your own topic to discuss the problem, if it recurs.

Hey I'm not to sure if its my ipad or just certain sites, but ill just be scrolling on a browser ether chrome or safari and every so often ill get redirected to sites I won't click on anything it will just switch the site I'm on. The latest one that it redirected me to was a site saying that my "android" device need to be scanned and was infected. I know the whole no virus thing on iOS but what about spyware and malware?
