How to send message

With the beta imessage I could send text to those with iphones etc. With the full version in ML even though I show "Imessage, 2 AIM accounts and Bonjour, all I seem to be able to do is something from AIM? Everyone is shown offline and nothing seems to work? I would like to again be able to send messages to my family who have iphones which are on all the time. What has happened or changed and how do I do this again?

Hi,

You can send to their iPhone Number

What this will not do though is sync to their Messages App (Only Apple IDs will sync)

If someone sends to your iPhone Number it will not sync to your Messages app.

It is reported that Messages will be able to "Send" as if it were the Phone Number when iOS 6 comes out and Syncing will work when iMessages are sent to the Phone number.
