Can anyone tell me why/what causes my iPhone 4 smells like an odd mixture of bubble gum and nail polish remover. It's coming from the headphone jack and bottom port. The phone is not new but is less then a year old and I've never spilt anything on it.

Ok. I took my iPhone apart to replace a cracked screen and when I took out the battery, the adhesive holding the battery ripped the protective paper on the battery itself and once that happened, I smelled the smell that you described. So more than likely, it's your battery which got too hot. You should have it replaced.
sounds like it was in ur purse!
I don't keep nail polish remover or bubble gum in my purse.
Those are not ingredients found in the iphone either.
