Open the Clip Inspector to the Audio tab and set the volume to zero.

Thank you but as i understand it, this procedure doesn't actually delete the audio. The track could be restored later. My goal is to delete, as in eliminate permanently, the audio track. You know if that is possible? thanks again.
You would have to add all the clips where you want to delete the audio ti a project. Set the volume for each clip to zero. Then use the Share Menu to share the video. If you want to use the video in other projects, I would suggest that you use SHARE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME in Apple Intermediate Codec.
Finally, you can import the movie you just made back into iMovie for use in projects.
And you can delete the original Event and empty the trash.
