I'll notice the system bogging down...and find that iTunes is use 80% or more of my CPU time in Activity Monitor. This did not happen with 10.6.1. Tips/tricks/suggestions would be appreciated.

I'll notice the system bogging down...and find that iTunes is use 80% or more of my CPU time in Activity Monitor.
There's a couple of different things that can hit folks in this way.
Doublechecking ... are you getting this when iTunes is in the mini player mode? Or in the main player?
It's happened in both full and in mini player mode. No downloading or other activity is going on in iTunes...I'm simply playing the music. I do not use iCloud or Timemachine either...I do manual backups by dragging to an external HD.

Okay. Are you in Cover Flow view? If so, try switching to List view. Does that calm down the CPU usage a bit?
Next time it goes crazy I'll give that a try. What I've been doing is just restart iTunes and that calms it down.
🙂 Fingers crossed. (Given that you've got the variation that hits in the main window, the List view workaround is more likely to just reduce the excessive CPU usage rather than eliminate it entirely, I'm afraid.)

MIne will actually do it if I go to mini player from the coverflow view...or if I'm running big screen cover flow...
