Mountain Lion installed a few weeks ago but MBP is running really hot!! How can I fix mds and mdworker in the activity center?

Hello, I installed Mountain Lion a few weeks ago on my mid-2009 Macbook Pro. Ever since then my computer runs extremely hot! I keep an eye on my activity monitor, and I think I can pin it to mds and mdworker. From what I've read, this is related to Searchlight and indexing, however I can't imagine that it should still be indexing?? Any suggestions? I am not a computer pro, so I don't do my own programming or anything like that. Thank you in advance!

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ If you’re running OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.

Step 1

Select "system.log" from the file list. Enter "mdworker" (without the quotes) in the Filter text field. Post the messages that appear in the Console window — the text, please, not a screenshot.

If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Do not post many repetitions of the same message.

Some personal information, such as the names of your files, may be included — edit that out, too, but don’t remove the context.

Step 2

Do the same with the search string "mds".

Thank you for your quick response! I'm not sure which runs are repeated and which aren't, so I deleted what I thought were the obvious ones. But, I probably still left a lot of stuff that is more than one example. Sorry ... Thank you for the help!!

Just based on other discussions that I have read - some people seemed to notice that mds and mdworker were running a lot in their activity center, due to spotlight. I really have no idea of my own. I just know my computer runs really hot, and that in the activity center, mds and mdworker seem to be very busy. This has only been in occuring in the few weeks since I installed the new operating system.

In Activity Monitor, sort the entries in the process table by %CPU by clicking the column header twice. What are the top few, and what are the values?

I am having the EXACT same issue. ever since the upgrade, my MBP is just plain old MAD! I also use a mid 09 MBP upgraded 500GB HD w/ 8GB Ram. After getting past 2.00GB Ram Usage, my computer is ******!!! the fan is running like crazy and heats up where I feel that I need to shut it down and wait for it to cool. I keep Activity Monitor open all the time now just to monitor. What is going on?

I have had the install for over 4-5 days now, so indexing should be complete. There are no other users on this MBP either.
