I hope it doesn't break or doesn't work. Even if it needs repair do I just take it to Apple?

Verizon has nothing to do with AppleCare+.
If your device is less than 30 days old and qualifies for AppleCare+, Apple provides all support.
Regardless, Apple provides all support for iPhones in the US. You would only take it to Verizon if you purchased insurance through them and needed to file an insurance claim.
So if I just get insurance through Verizon, and somehow after that my iPhone 4 breaks... They'll give me a new iPhone for free?
If that happens can I get one that's more than 8GB?
Those would be questions to ask Verizon or whomever runs their insurance program. Apple is in no way affiliated with that program.
