Cannot play my music on my apple tv

I am able to rent a movie, listen to the radio etc on my apple tv. I am trying to play my music from my itunes library to my apple tv, but i am not getting the icon at the bottom to switch speakers on any of my devices, ipod, desktop, etc.

I have everything up to date.

Please help
