your computer restarted because of a problem

Hi,

I have MacBook Pro 13-inch, Mid 2012 and I have kernel panic mostly when I leave computer ** itself, but sometimes it freezes also when I'm using it. I hope someone can help me.

Mne is now resolved, originally I went to a genius bar where they said they had completed a VST and it had passed. However, I arranged an appointment with KRCS in Leeds a whom tested the logic board and it failed the VST. They ordered a replacement logic and it was replaced by the next day; two weeks later I opened up my Macbook Pro to find colourful lines across the screen and took it back to KRCS whom at first thought it was the internal display. However, Stuart looked into this in more detail and diagnosed that the logic board was at fault again and was replaced by the next day... all FOC!

Thank you KRCS. PS. my Macbook is a mid 2010 and the repair was still covered even though I had no warranty.

It looks as though your problem is related to the Logictech driver that you have installed:

com.Logitech.Control Center.HID Driver 3.6.0

To eliminate that as a cause, find it (Usually System>Library>Extensions, but it could be hiding anywhere - if you've an uninstaller to for mouse, use it) and put it into a folder on your Desktop and restart? Still having kernel panics? Call back...

Thanks Clinton for quick response. I had kernel panic problems also before I installed my Logitech mouse, but I uninstalled it and I'm now hoping that would help. My friend said that I should run SMC reset and PRAM reset, if I still get KP:s should I run those resets?

Wouldn't hurt anything - but I'm thinking that it's the driver that's the problem.

Mid-2010 15" MacBook Pros - the bad NVIDIA GPU

If you're having frequent kernel panics with your 15" mid-2010, or intermittent screen problems, the problem is, more than likely, the faulty NVIDIA GPU found in a number of those machines.

Here's the "official" Apple take on the issue - but the very real kernel panics need not be preceded by 'Intermittent black screen or loss of video'... in fact, you might not experience any video problems at all. Although video problems can certainly be a portent of things to come…

So what can you do? Print out a copy of your kernel panic and a copy of the Knowledge Base article and take them, along with your machine, to your local Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. They should be more than willing to install a new logic board at no cost. I have no idea why this faulty GPU is making the headline here on the MacBook Pro forum so often now - could it be because Mountain Lion is just bringing the issue to a head more readily? I don't know - I only know that we're seeing more and more of these kernel panics of late.

Mid-2010 15" MacBook Pros - the bad NVIDIA GPU

If you're having frequent kernel panics with your 15" mid-2010, or intermittent screen problems, the problem is, more than likely, the faulty NVIDIA GPU found in a number of those machines.

Here's the "official" Apple take on the issue - but the very real kernel panics need not be preceded by 'Intermittent black screen or loss of video'... in fact, you might not experience any video problems at all. Although video problems can certainly be a portent of things to come…

So what can you do? Print out a copy of your kernel panic and a copy of the Knowledge Base article and take them, along with your machine, to your local Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. They should be more than willing to install a new logic board at no cost. I have no idea why this faulty GPU is making the headline here on the MacBook Pro forum so often now - could it be because Mountain Lion is just bringing the issue to a head more readily? I don't know - I only know that we're seeing more and more of these kernel panics of late.
