Safari & Security

In Safari 6.0 with Mountain Lion, the URL/search bar displays security info (Lock/https:) only very briefly as the page is loading. After the page is loaded, I can't tell if the site I'm on is secure or not. Is this a new design feature, and where can I learn more about it?
