Preview of PDF files is blurry

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, when I preview (by using the spacebar in Finder) a PDF file, it first comes up blurry. If I hit the space bar again twice (to minimise and reopen it) then the blur goes away and the image is crisp. How do I fix this?

I just bought a new iMac and transferred everything across (not using the migration assistant, but manually reinstalling all the apps) and the problem is gone on the new Mac. Since I've re-installed all my old applications, I don't think the problem is caused by an application ... it must be some corruption in a setting or file on the old machine.

Add me to the list.

It happens both on my late 2007 iMac and on my late 2008 macbook, both updated to 10.8.3.

In my case it happens more frequently with files with more than two pages or with lot of graphics/text.

I already tried the "usual suspects" (I mean, repairing permissions, cleaning caches) without luck.

If I boot in safe mode, the problem disappears, only to come back at the next reboot.
