Q: Unable to delete print jobs

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I am unable to delete print jobs after they have been sent to my HP printer. The full document still prints, despite it's status as deleted on the computer. Apparently the job can be cancelled before the data are sent.

Previously, one could cancel a job before it started (e.g. if there is no paper in the tray) and avoid printing. One could also stop the job midway through printing and the printer would stop immediately, leaving a half-printed page. This is no longer the case.

I have USB and bluetooth (no network) and the issue affects both.

This is very frustrating because there is absolutely no way to stop erroneous documents from printing (short of turning off the machine).

Read your HP printer manual to reset printer.

Thanks for the advice. Did not fix the problem. As noted above, jobs can be deleted on computer (they disappear from the print queue) but they print nevertheless.

What happens if you power off your printer, then power it back on?

Powering off while there is a pending job (presumbably in the printer, there is nothing in the print queue) will stop the deleted document from printing.

New jobs slated for printing and then cancelled will print unless the printer is turned off again (turning off the printer is a temporary solution and probably not great for the life of the printer).

    Thanks!

At this point I would contact the printer manufacturer.

I am getting the same exact problem on my lexmark 312L. I set the printer to print 4 copies and it won't stop printing (15 prints now). I removed all the papers but the load paper light is on. There is nothing in the print que to cancel the job.

I've tried restarting my computer to no success. Very irritating. I also have Mountain Lion.

Looks like I'll have to delete the printer from my system and reinstall the drivers.

Even deleting the printer and reinstalling has done nothing. I have no idea how to fix it.

    Update:

I just unplugged the printer and the printer printed one more copy and stopped. It could be a coincidence.
