Is it possible to rename an OSX OD Domain?

We have a problem.

A junior engineer named a new Apple OD domain similar to the following: example.com during an implementation. It was discovered too far after the fact to start over at this time.

Unfortunately, example.com exists in the real world and does not belong to the client. We have a need to rename the OD domain to example.internal or example.int.

Question: Is this possible to do without completely starting over? Any answers would be appreciated so we can plan a course of action - thank you.

It might in theory be possible to rename the domain name, but other parts of the server software are going to become confused.

I think you will ultimately find the least painful option is to use Workgroup Manager to export your user accounts and groups, and if used computer groups, then to destroy the current Open Directory Master, make the DNS changes, make a new Open Directory Master, and then use Workgroup Manager to import the user accounts etc.
