iPod touch freezing and chucking me out...?

I have an iPod touch (second generation - I think - it's one without a camera...) and it keeps playing up! It plays music fine, but whenever I try to go on the internet (safari) or to go on an app, it will work for about 30 seconds and then freeze, the screen will go black, and then it will chuck me out altogether.

What's even more annoying is that I've already e-mailed Apple and they couldn't do anything for me, so does someone here, PPPLLLLEEEEAAAASSSEEE have the answer to my problem and know how to fix it?

Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:

- Reset. Nothing is lost

Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Restore from backup

- Restore to factory settings/new iPod

if still problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
