when i pod touch plugged in it is recognized as a camera

When I plug My ipod touch into my computer using the usb, my device does not show up in I tunes, and I get a screen that says a camera has been connected, and asks me what program to open it with, and I tunes is not an option. Can someone please help me fix this problem, I would reallyl appreciate it. Thank you.
