Clicking on Apple Mail links hijacks the last open website in Safari 6.0

Whenever I click on a link in Apple mail rather than openning ion Safai in a new page it hijacks or overtakes the page or website I have open. You can't hit the back button either in Safari once this happens. It just overtakes the page and you lose whatever you were looking at... such a Facebook for example.

Has anyone experienced this since upgrading to Maountain Lion and Safari 6.0?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion
