My wife has a iPhone 3G. I cannot clear out deleted emails. %0 emails continue to show up on the In Box even though I have deleted them from the email server. What can I do?

I'm having the same issue.......junk mail I deleted August 5 is still showing up in my trash. Help
Same problem! iPhone 5. Optimum (Cablevision) email. Over 1000 emails, deleted from server. iPhone settings set to delete from server when removed from inbox. I do a bulk move from inbox to trash (that's a trick in and of itself!) Deleted messages is set to remove after one day.
I can't clear out emails. The phone repeatedly brings back 50 emails from my email even though they have been deleted from the email InBox What can I do?
