safari 6.0 crash when right clicking a link and choosing open in new tab

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.

Step 1

Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot.

Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.

Step 2

Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

I am seeing sudden quits also associated with this message:

Received an invalid message from the web process with message ID 323002f

There is no crash report in the User Diagnostic Reports. In fact there is no acknowledgement from the system of the crash, other than that message in the console I placed above.

Also having the same crash issue here, with the exact same error message as posted by Jason Barker above

Having the same problem in Mountain Lion, still seeing it in 10.8.1, but now seeing the following in Console: 2012-08-23 1:40:05.823 PM Safari[994]: CGContextClipToRect: invalid context 0x0

Any thoughts here?

Hi Linc, thanks for the help. I think the issue is that Safari does not seem to register the crash (i.e. I'm not seeing a dialog)

On 10.8.1 I'm getting this in console: 2012-08-23 1:40:05.823 PM Safari[994]: CGContextClipToRect: invalid context 0x0

Previously, I was seeing the following: Safari[2486]: Received an invalid message from the web process with message ID 323002f

Yep, I'm getting the EXACT same issue as well: Received an invalid message from the web process with message ID 323002f.

No crash logs visible in User Diagnostics either(at least pertaining to this issue).

Seems to be TOTALLY random how it does it for me, but usually occurs when opening a link(right clicking, open in new tab...crash), manually cmd+t to open a new tab...crash, and sometimes when just switching tabs as well...crash.

VERY annoying to say the least.

I have the same problem, until today Safari crashed occasionaly, but today, whenever I open a new tab and try to go to a website, it crashes. At this point I can not use Safari, so I switched to Chrome.

I started using safari since mountain lion, and I really liked it, but now I can't use it anymore. Hope they will fix it soon

Same behavior with my macbook pro '09 with safari 6 on lion...

No logs, just restarting. I found that most of the times it crashes when I'm trying to open the page with media content on it like youtube video for example.

Really tired with that...

I too have this problem. Happens totally randomly. 10.8.2, Safari 6.0.1, iMac late 2009.

I am still having this problem. By the way, I am using Safari 6.01 on 10.7.5, so it is not unique to Mountain Lion.

I have reported it to Apple. I suggest everyone else do the same, if you have not already . . . . maybe that will help.

By the way, are people here using extensions? I have Adblock, Click to Flash, 1Password, and JavaScript Blacklist.

Any common factors?

Ahh, good idea. I have Click to Flash and 1Password installed as well, nothing else. I bet it is one of these--I've had problems with these and Safari before.

Same issue on both my 2011 iMac & my late 2006 Macbook Pro. Both running Sarari 6.01 & (ML & Lion). I am using Click to Flash on both.

Same issue here. No Click to Flash installed, but 1Password. It has been happening on average once a day or two, and even today. Today it also happened when I wanted to create an empty new tab, not link to a new tab. OSX 10.7.5 on iMac.
