multi-page scan in Image Capture?

Is it possible to scan more than one page at a time in Image Capture? Frequently I have documents of more than one page that I want to scan. I have looked through all the menus on Image Capture. I do not see a "new" tool or its equivalent. To do a second scan, I have to close Image Capture and restart it. That is inconvenient. Instead is there some way of starting a new scan after I have completed a previous scan?

If you scan as a PDF there is a box you can check to combine into single document. That will allow you to scan multiple pages.

The Image Capture app IS pretty basic.

The only option that might help is to check the 'Detect Separate Items', even if each document contains only one item.

In my brief test (3 scans to pdf format) as long as you drag the scan area to include the full document, it appears that the app should remain open for multiple scans, but each one is a separate file.

Did your scanner come with OS X support software from the manufacturer?

My Canon all-in-one printer included MP Navigator 3 software control panel with quick as well as expanded options.

It keeps running and can easily add additional scans to a folder and can add extra pages to documents scanned as multi-page pdf files.

I ended up using Preview to this. File > Import from Scanner > <your scanner>. Once I had separate images saved (similar to how they are saved with image capture, I opened up the Thumbnails view from the toolbar and dragged in all the other images I wanted. Then finally, Print the document but Save as a PDF... and you can have it all in a single PDF.

Hi i'm using this Image Capture app a lot and "Combine into single document" currently is broken here.... 😟 When i put a pile-of-paper in the feeder and scan with that option checked than i get 1 pdf with only empty pages. When i rescan with the option unchecked (change nothing else, put the pages back in the feeder exactly the same way) i get 1 seperate pdf for every page. These seperate pdf's are perfectly fine...... Am i missing somthing?????

Old topic and info but still very useful. Thanks!

One thing to note. After scanning you'll need to do something to keep it from appending future scans to that file. Either

1) Rename the pdf file

2) Move the pdf file to a different directory

3) Turn off the Append option. If you do only this and turn it back on it will continue to append to the selected file so you'll eventually have to do one of the other two options if you ever need to scan with append again.

Stumbled across this old thread too - to clarify, you can switch to a new document by typing a different file name in the dialog before starting a scan. Doing that "ends" the old file (stops adding pages to it) and starts a new one. Navigating to the scan file in Finder and renaming or moving it has the same effect, only it will create a new file using the name that had been used before (believe the default is Scan.pdf). Odd to have it work this way but there it is.
