Somebody took my iPad from me and cracked the screen. I still have the one year warranty on it . I do not have the apple care plan. Is there anyway I can get it replaced or fixed for free?

Not for free unless you can get your friend to foot the bill.
Apple does Out-of-Warranty replacements for $299.
Alternatively, you could probably buy a replacement screen on Amazon or eBay, and find an experienced friend to do the fix for you.

Who ever cracked it is responcible to fix it. This is why I never lend my iPad out, and I have a screen protector installed. Warranty only covers defective screens, not broken screens. The new iPad screen is extremely hard to replace.
