Fred Ochs Level 1 Level 1

When I click on one of the radio channels in my favorites under Playlists, iTunes does not start streaming it. When I click on the play arrow, nothing happens then either. When I go to radio under LIBRARY, there is not problem playing the channels there.

Just installed OS 10.8.1 anbd the original poster's (my) problem seems to be fixed.

This happens to me after a couple months of establishing a radio favourites list (just happened today actually).

The only thing I've been able to do is recreate the list by dragging my favs back into my radio playlist and delete the old ones. This isn't a big deal if you've only got 8 stations like I do, but if you've got dozens (or hundreds!), that's hugely annoying. It's as if they get 'stale' after awhile... as if 'alias' or link that's created when you move items into the playlist quits working??  My music playlists haven't been affected this way.

This didn't start happening til... hmmm... late  2011 I think. I'm not a very careful documenter of these things. Currently have version 10.6.3.

I'm on the same version. Glad I'm not alone, but it would be nice to know about a fix.

Same thing is happening to me. I'm running Windows 7 and have iTunes version 10.6.3. Grrrrrrr.

This is something Apple did. You'll see "it is no longr avilable thru the Apple store" posted if you hit the INFO link.

This is either a way to stop people from using free music streams or the music industry has forced apple to stop. This is happening on all my machines. I hope It's not all about money. Explodes the iTunes "best" myth to oblivion.

  • KMurph81 Level 1 Level 1

If this is correct, that there's a perception that using free streams compromised music industry profits, then they're biting themselves in the proverbial derriere. I've bought way more music (and all from itunes) as a direct result of hearing new material on the streaming stations even than when I primarily listened to mainstream radio! sheesh.

So my existing favorite radio stations stopped working from the "Favorite Radio Stations" folder a few days ago. I can re-add those same stations into that folder and they'll play again, so this contradicts what BigDutches said. Does anyone have a link to specific info from Apple that says they're trying to prevent people from creating their own folders of radio stations?

  • KMurph81 Level 1 Level 1

I can't find anything recent from apple addressing this issue at all (except for coming across Fred's question) regarding why the behaviour is happening etc. The fact that a) the fav list can be reinstated; b) the original 'non fav' list still plays; and c) there seems to be an increase in this behaviour over the past few days would seem to indicate a software bug in this version of itunes than a proprietary issue. If it was a matter of proprietary use, then surely they (apple) would remove the streaming stations altogether or start charging to listen (heaven forbid!). But I'm no techie, and def no lawyer!

Stale links are fairly common in any bookmark folders

The iTunes sidebar Radio option and all the stations still available in the latest iTunes on OSX 10.8  Mountain lion.

As Ashka stated, links go old and the server will stop replying to them and sending you a stream. That's the quick story but there's more going on, and my thoughts are a DNS snafu somewhere.

The Radio Tuner lists have changed in the last few days - stations disapppearing in all categories which leads me to believe there's been a listing update that many streaming stations aren't aware of..

I'm killing myself now as well, as for whatever reason my iTunes 2.0.4 (on OS 9.2.2 - yes, I *know*, but I need to use it with a Nikon CoolScan 3000) no longer lists any radio  stations and only the ones I pulled off of websites today (that I could get to with the Classilla browser) are working now.

  • Fred Ochs Level 1 Level 1

I'm not buying stale links as the source of the problem because (1) they all went stale on the same day, That make no sense and (2) when I deleted one from the favorites and then dragged it back in there from the regular list, it worked for a while (I'm talking maybe 60 minutes) and then failed again. Nothing goes stale that fast except good French bread.

  • KMurph81 Level 1 Level 1

That is hilarious Fred! I'll have to test that (the links, that is... no good French bread around the house sadly)...

I haven't been listening to radio streaming this weekend...

I have 2 identical mirrored, machines running, home and office. Both happened same day. OOpps. But, if you play a radio station downloded with the link from the original station, these play. It's only the stations dragged from the Apple pick lists. I think they inadvertanly reassigned links in coding.

I have seen small coding issues that were corrected after mistakes by update programmers who didn't test the software updates completely. Apple is probably the best at quality control, but I remember one case where they had to roll out an update (note they don't call it a patch) in a week to correct a  .jpg preview problem. Not sure if it was an overzealous legal team issue or what.

Mysteriously seems like the same thing. In the last case, It would pop up with a permission statement each time, even if it was your photo. After calling, they said, dah, it must be me. Waddya know, 1 week later it was fixed. No pop-up.

Could this be just what KMurph81 said. always about money? I think Apple introduced a "softfart." A fart in the software. Hopefully this too will pass, without much smell.

Well yey, my work computer's fav radio stations are indeed dead in the water again today. So much for my tidy little temp solution. My HOME computer's radio favs however,  still working. Same OS and same itunes versions both places. Let's hope BigDutches is correct, that it will be corrected, even if quietly 'sf' in the background...

  • BigDutches Level 1 Level 1

OK, my Apple Tv still has stream links. I think they screwed up unintentionally. Wait a week. I have faith. Apple needs to get the message.
