Have your tried removing the Printer from your System Preferences and then adding the printer again?

Deleting the printer and reinstalling will not, in and of itself, work. I tried that first. You have to get rid of the 2.10 update and replace it with something else. I used the 2.09 which Apple seems to have unbelievably removed (since I commented yesterday on using it to workaround this problem) from the Downloads section of their website. If they did, you gotta wonder why they wouldn't want people to be able to fix the problem until they (or HP) can reissue a fix.

This has worked many times "In and Of Itself" for lots of other problems.

Apparently it will not work for the original posters problem.

I have updated the HP drivers on 3 machines now without any problems.

You're right, which is why I said what I said.

The folder you're looking for is in the Library/Printers folder. What I've done that worked was to delete and replace the entire "hp" folder within the printers folder (from a reinstall of an older driver update) . Not sure if doing that alone will work since I reinstalled an entire printer driver update rather than replacing just that folder. It might, but you'll have to give it a shot to see.

Normally, in Lion and Mountain Lion, I believe the Library folder is rendered invisible. I've used "Lion Tweaks" and "Mountain Lion Tweaks" (third paty apps) to make mine visible, though there are other ways to do that. Since I did, I can easily access that folder (Library) on my TM backup.

Well, I just saw where another poster said re-downloading the 2.10 update worked. When I checked the available download, I noticed that the version number was "2.9" and that the file size matched the download I made last night. Apple has apparently moved the 2.9 update into the slot for the 2.10 update. So, find the 2.10 update, check to make sure that the version is 2.9 and file size is 473.3 MB, and then have at it. It looks like you may be able to simply install this over the 2.10 update and get it working. Be sure to reboot before you try it. If it doesn't work, try deleting the "hp" folder from the Library/Printers folder, reinstall 2.9, and try it again.

Unfortunately, I don't have the file package I downloaded last night so I can't look for differences. When I downloaded the 2.9 version file Apple is supplying now and applied it to a Snow Leopard boot disk, like you, I had the same problem. The crash log showed it was the same plugin: hpPostScriptPDE.plugin -- the same version that gave me problems last night. I got it working again by going into the Library/Printers/hp/ PDEs folder and simply deleting that plug in. I don't use PostScript for anything; instead I use PCL 5/6, so I believe this may work for most people as well. The same trick might work with the 2.10 driver update as well as long as that's the only problem with it.

Removing the PostScript plugin, as you noted, seems to fix the crash (thus far) I'm also experiencing. However, there are some things we need PostScript for so there certainly must be a fix created! Thanks for your troubleshooting work.
