Still looking for the same answer myself.

I know the activity monitor is now hidden away

in Safari / Preferences/ Advanced...

you tick the box marked "Show develop menu in menu bar".

That gives you access to the activity monitor and much else besides.

I have no idea yet how to find the playing video and download it.

I had this question too.

I've solved it 😉

most of the time its under: "Show Web Inspector" under the develop menu which you activate

in Safari / Preferences/ Advanced...

you tick the box marked "Show develop menu in menu bar".

then you load the video (like always) and then you hit: cmd + alt + A as always, and you find the "Other" folder and you're video file should be there.

I know, I know, I feel your pain. Seems like one step forward, two steps back.... AGAIN!

I can't download from sites I could previously with Safari 5

If after pressing Command+Alt+A a folder named OTHER sometimes appears, look in there for a file with an mp4 extension, I think that is the video file. I don't know yet if double clicking on it starts the download as it did previously.

The folder named Other either displays itself or it doesn't. That's our problem. If it does display itself, open it and you might see a file inside with a .flv extension or an .mp4. Double click on those as before and it should download.

If you can't see a folder named Other I don't believe there is anything you can do...unless I hear different!

This info is for anyone posting here:

As per the Youtube ToU's, downloads are not allowed unless there is a direct download link shown:

5. Your Use of Content

In addition to the general restrictions above, the following restrictions and conditions apply specifically to your use of Content.

  1. The Content on the Service, and the trademarks, service marks and logos ("Marks") on the Service, are owned by or licensed to YouTube, subject to copyright and other intellectual property rights under the law.
  2. Content is provided to you AS IS. You may access Content for your information and personal use solely as intended through the provided functionality of the Service and as permitted under these Terms of Service. You shall not download any Content unless you see a “download” or similar link displayed by YouTube on the Service for that Content. You shall not copy, reproduce, distribute, transmit, broadcast, display, sell, license, or otherwise exploit any Content for any other purposes without the prior written consent of YouTube or the respective licensors of the Content. YouTube and its licensors reserve all rights not expressly granted in and to the Service and the Content.

And, per the ToU here, we are not allowed to discuss how to circumvent such rules.

I do not know why Apple is unwilling to just answer a simple question (in a very simple way) about how to download video's in the first place. YouTube is not the only site where video's can be viewed or downloaded from.

The simple fix to this problems is to just put the "Activity" button back in on Safari. But Apple seem's bent on lossing people back to an IBM based system. I do not know that much about the tech side of a iMac computer so the garbage that this thread has shared from Apple is totally of no use to me.

Make things simple for the end user and stop playing mind games Apple.
