same with me! Because of those two stupid freezes and couple other things, I have this strong paranoia that there is something wrong with my Mac. I have run Onyx, Geekbench, and other system testing related applications and I haven't found anything wrong but I have had strange things happen before.

sh*t. Ok. Somebody here is going to have to go to the genius bar and have a screenshot of they console when they got the freeze. I know I have a screen shot of when the freeze happened. Show them the screenshot and tell them what happens when it freezes.

My computer is an iMac and it has had several OS upgrades and therefore I forget how old it is. Anyway, I had upgraded to ML when it first came out in July and ended up with a lot of problems with lagging, beach-balling, and some freezes.

When I finally got 10.8.2 from Apple Store my computer had dramatic improvement and is now working great. So, now I am a happy camper.

This is also occurring for me in many cases with several different applications. It is occurring when accessing the Finder to either selecte a location for a download or folder for action, etc. A full reboot (holding power down) is required for the computer to come out of it. A couple of times I've gotten the gray screen and it reboots itself.

Only had this machine for a week or two.

Hm even though there are a lot of us that are having this issue there are also a lot of people who DON'T have this issue. There's got to be a specific reason for this. I have tried the following things to stop the freezes/beachballing: Onyx, CCleaner, Rebooting. I will also try resetting SMC and PRAM sometime but all of the things have helped very little. So far I haven't had any freezes on 10.8.2 though.

Still the same after updating for me and my Late 2009 MBP.

Getting more and more frustrating, please apple just give us an update that fixes it for everyone, not just some of us

I have a mac pro with 12GB of memory, and I am also having this problem. I upgraded to 10.8.2, and still have the hangs. Most hangs last 30-90 seconds. Occassionally longer.

I also have 5-20 stuck processes on an ongoing basis.

PID              COMMAND  %CPU         TIME   STATE       USER

       1787     iCalExternalSync   1.7     00:02.10   stuck    user1

       1754             mdworker   0.0     00:00.85   stuck _spotlight

        944                 sudo   0.0     00:00.04   stuck       root

        607             Terminal   1.7     01:32.90   stuck    user1

        596          YoruFukurou   0.0     00:17.18   stuck    user1

        189           lsregister   0.0     00:04.63   stuck    user1

        146           lsregister   0.0     00:07.02   stuck       root

         39                  mds   0.0     00:14.53   stuck       root

The problem has gotten worse since upgrading to mountain lion.

Hm. The majority of us have the freezing problem but it doesn't unfreeze. We are forced to press and hold the power button. Also how did you view those stuck processes? What did you use?

I used 'top' and just cut and pasted (and edited down) the output.

Since 10.8.2 came along the nature of my issue has changed a little bit. I only get the video freezes when I use an external monitor now. If I keep that disconnected then I do not run into any issues. I plug in an external monitor and I get multiple video lockups like before multiple times a day.

Same here, its done it twice since i updated to 10.8.2

Both times i was working on photoshop CS3 and watching a streaming video on Chrome simultaneously

It was pretty terrifing cause all the screen froze and then the image broke up and was fragmented all over the place.

I had to force shutdown both times.

i hope a patch or update comes soon.

    i use a Mac Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon.

It happened again today, this time while watching a trailer on Chrome.

i forced shut down and then it froze twice while trying to reboot.

i will be using a different browser today just in case its a Chrome issue.

this needs to be fixed soon, i cannot work like this.

Don't want to say this is a solution, but definitely worth a try. As I've been one like you all, experiencing unexpected frozen from time to time. After upgrading to 10.8.2, it could happen 2-3 time/day.

I've tried reboot, reset PRAM, SMC, none of these works for me.

Two days ago, I found someone mentioned in another discussion, is to use this update combo to install 10.8.2 update.

I've already upgraded to 10.8.2, through auto system upgrade. So I did this manual installation.

So far, my iMac is running pretty smooth, without giving me any trouble for about 2 days. I can't say this is a solution, but still worth a try.

    Good luck!
