Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

My macbook pro 15" gets a black screen randomly.

Randomly, while playing games, listening to music or whatever (even just typing!) , my screen goes black and whatever noise was playing stops and repeats. The only thing I can do is to shut down my computer and restart. I have a 15" Macbook pro with Snow Leopard mid 2010. This will happen 2 or 3x a day, or once a week, or once every 3 months. It's very random. Been trying to play Diablo 3 and I can't even get past the login screen before it freaks out. Any ideas?

(And, guys, I know, mac's are not for games....moving on...)

Here's what comes up when I turn my computer back on:

Please check on this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3191083?answerId=19285228022#19285228022&ac_cid=tw123456#19285228

My mbp mid 2010 running on Nvidia GT330 having the same issue, it is the graphic problem... I had fixed this problem by sending it to apple services and they replaced my LB. You can refer to this recall: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088

Hope This help.

I had tried installing all the fixes and even tried with SL,Lion,ML...clean install...but the problem persist...It is clearly factory defect for Nvidia graphic, after changing of LB and the problem solved. You may try update to ML as i see some of the user respond that upgrading to ML seems solve the problem..you can check it here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3191083?answerId=19285228022#19285228022&ac_cid=tw123456%23192852 28

Thanks

I just figure that is something the Bar is going to have me do anyway. How long did it take them to swap the LB out? Did they do it in-store? I cannot be a day without my Mac since I am still in school. The thing is, I am perfectly happy with SL and do not have any money to upgrade. I am also not willing to loose features and the custom setup/configuration I have. I know that may solve the issue, but I refuse to pay to upgrade to solve an issue that Apple has. Not the way I wanted to say that sentence, but you know what I mean lol.

Of course when they ran the hardware stress test on my machine (the one that runs a bunch of algorithms and makes interesting shapes) for about half an hour, he could not get my MacBook Pro to crash.. He also didn't see anything weird in the Console logs, but I'm pretty sure he didn't see the kernel panics.. He told me that I could have it checked in so they can run a longer test overnight. I told him I couldn't do it because of school. Did you have any luck?

My macbook pro 15" gets a black screen randomly.
