why is my iphone4 not allowing output from the usb connection?

Hi,

My iphone 4 will work connected to my imac computer, but it will not play through an auxiliary cable nor a usb hook up for sound. I can hear it play on my phone the music, (even though it has never and still is not very loud), but I cannot get any thing to play when hooked up to any radio? Can someone please help me out here? I have gone through all your steps for troubleshooting on both issues I am having, sound and loudness and none of it worked.😕

usb don't carry sound not sure how you would expect it to it's a digital serial data interface

Sorry but I'm lost here? What do you mean? I said I was also trying to connect via auxiliary cable to the radio also? Why does it work then when I use the power cord w/USB to my computer and it plays music? My husband and g/f's both work thru a radio with either plug.

Hope this explains it better?!?!?!?!?
