magic mouse connection lost
I have tried several suggested fixes for losing magic mouse connection. I still lose connection. Why is this happening and how can I fix it once and for all?

Hello:
Try making the mouse a favorite.
Barry
I did this already..and after I did it, I restarted. About 10 minutes later, my mouse lost connection..again.. Any other suggestions?
May or may not help, but try resetting the PRAM and SMC.
Barry
Hi have you checked that the batteries arnt going flat?
Batteries are not the issue..I replaced my 1.2 v recargables with 1.5 regular batteries, made a fav of this mouse, id the PRAM..it kept losing connection. I was going to toss this mouse through the window. I see many other posts about the magic mouse, too.
When I was at the end of my rope, it started working again. No idea how or why..it just did. So...what fixed it? Fear, I think..lol..
Check the size of your battery.
Thou the size is AA, they are slightly physically different in size!
I have being using Energizer recharge battery for a long time.. then i switch to a cheap set of batteries recently.. then the disconnection starts!.. And when i compare the size of the batteries side by side.. the energizer battery is indeed that much bigger.
Hi Barry. I'm having the same problem as lorkon with constant disconnects. I did as you suggested making magic mouse a bluetooth favorite. I would like to follow your advice on resetting PRAM and SMC, but I don't have a clue what either of those acronyms stand for (except SMC stands for Southern Methodist Church, but I'm guessing that is not what you mean).
LOL@ Mike! đ You are correct.
SMC=system management controller reset like this:

PRAM=parameter random access memory reset like this:

Thanks Barry! I reset the PRAM first and so far no magic mouse connection losses! I appreciate your reply đ
This is a FWIW comment. I have a Garmin GPS device that I wear on my wrist. It fits on a charger that gets its power from a USB port on my Mac Pro tower. Normally, I let the display go to sleep but keep the computer, itself, awake. If I first touch the magic mouse when I return, all is well. If I plug in the watch first, the mouse connection is gone. Sometimes it seems to happen when I have not used the mouse for a while and then I plug in the Garmin watch. Once I loose a connection, I have to shut down and turn off power to the computer and then restart to get things to work. It could have something to do with the power system as the Garmin watch draws power from the computer. I would recommend that if there is much delay since last using a computer, click the mouse first before anything else. YMMV.
Leon's suggestion worked for me - I use a cinema display powered by connection with my PowerBook. Had this problem after 3 days away, when my magic mouse had not been used. Unplugged anything that was attached and drawing power, and the bluetooth connection with the mouse was easily reestablished, then reconnected the display and some other things and the mouse remained connected and working. Thanks!
I found that the problem was battery size. All AA batteries are not quite the same length. When I put in batteries the same as the originals, my problem disappeared. The battery was an Energiser - Advanced. Code 12-2024. Other Energiser batteries I used were slightly shorter.
I had the same problem. It appears the issue is like many other responders have said, battery size is the issue - in most cases. There have been suggestions of jamming paper in the mouse, buying Apple's rechargeable batteries or turning off the blue tooth of nearby devices - IPhones. I am using Kirkland brand batteries that in the past have worked just fine. Batteries are new and I keep loosing connection when moving the mouse. It is a physical connection issue that if you look at the + side of where the batteries go, there is a circle cut out of the plastic with the + side contact on the inside. The - side connection is a spring loaded pin that is supposed to push the + side onto the contact. The batteries that have a shorter "pin" on the + side are only marginally connecting to the contact. I found that if you take a very small amount of tin foil and fold it 3 times, cut it to size and place them in the circle of the + side in the mouse, the connection stays. Have had no issues since then. That should be a somewhat permanent fix. Be sure not to over do the foil. Hope that helps.
