I connected my iPhone to my Mac last night and now I can't get my email (Gmail) on my phone. Error message: 'The mail server "imap.gmail.com" is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account info in Mail settings." I didn't change anything and all my settings appear to be correct...what should be IMAP Path Prefix be?

Traci, Open Network Utility in Applications>Utilities, Ping tab, enter imap.gmail.com, ping, what does it report?

but the problem is with the iPhone not with the lap top.
I am also having the same issue with one of my gmail accounts. The other still sends mail to my phone with no problem. So that shows its not google. I've deleted it and reinstalled that account and it still has the same issue with the imap.

Ah, no idea on an iPhone, & sorry, no Network Utilty on the iPhone, moght consider re-posting in the iPhone section...
I'm having the same issue and my mail settings are as you indicated. Has anyone heard of a bug with "Mountain Lion" and Gmail?

I hate booting into 10.8, but gMail works just fine for me there.

Yes I also deleated the gmail account and reinstalled with no effect. The lap top can teather to the iPhone and recieve gmail but I still cant get past the imap on the phone?
Has apple or google said anything about this problem?
