OS X 10.4.11 upgrade to Mountain Lion

I have a MacBook Pro with OS X 10.4.11 and want to upgrade to Mountain Lion. I have not found guidance in the Apple Store and my "Software Update" under the apple menu says no available upgrades are available. What can I do? Thanks.

Upgrading to Mountain Lion

You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.

If you need to purchase Snow Leopard you can still purchase a copy from Apple's online store's telesales agents.[1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or Customer Service and Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775.] Ask for a Sales Representative.

Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:

Snow Leopard from Amazon.com

Snow Leopard from eBay

After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.

If you need to purchase Lion call 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. Ask for a Sales Representative. They will check your Apple ID, and email you a code and instructions. The cost is $29.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download.

Be sure your computer meets the minimum requirements:

Apple - OS X Mountain Lion - Read the technical specifications.

Great information Grasshopper but one thing was forgotten. To go from 10.4 - 10.6 one must first have 10.5 (Leopard).
@ fiesolana- You can go to 10.4-10.5 by purchasing Leopard, and then go to 10.6 after doing your software updates to 10.5 OS X, and then install Snow Leopard 10.6 then update to 10.6.8, at which you can skip Lion 10.7 and go directly to 10.8. Keep in mind 10.8 does require the processor to be 64 Bit. That being said you cannot skip to 10.6 by passing 10.5 unless you format and delete the partition on your HDD, at which Apple Care will not support nor walk you through.

You can purchase 10.5 from Apple Care, or from 3rd Party website retailers.

Purchasing from Apple Care will give you 90 Days Phone Support.

Enjoy!

As always check your hardware specifications to see if your compatible to upgrade to 10.8

@Kappy - As for Leopard, it is $16.00 which is purchasable from us at Apple Care (+Tax, and optional Express Shipping). Not $129.00. The server edition of Leopard isn't even that much. Of course if your trying to purchase it from Ebay, Amazon, or some of the other 3rd party vendors those prices are likely. Also keep in mind a Sr. Advisor is required to approve the Leopard purchase.

@Fiesolana - Also keep in mind to check your hardware specs. It is recommended that if you go backwards to go back to Leopard as AC doesn't support 10.4 any longer. 10.5 is minamum.
