creating restore point ?

Hi

Is it possible to create a restore point on Mac like you can do with Windows ?

I've tried Time Machine but it always wants me to connect another HDD, but all I want to do is make a restore point on my hard drive so if anything happens I can revert to it, is it possible on mac ?

And if so, can someone explain to me how I do it ?

Thanks

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Then you need either a bigger external hard drive or one that is formatted Mac Extended (Journaled) with a Partition Table of GUID and not one formatted Windows NTFS. Mac can't write to a Windows NTFS formatted drive.

Well, or you could get a Time Capsule which is a network share.

I mean, if you want to back up your computer, how are you going to do it? Or are you simply not going to ever back up, and then come here asking for help once you've lost data? Don't be _that_ person. I'm all out of empathy for folks who lose data because they don't back up in this day and age, given OS X makes it so easy.

You only need to connect the external drive when you want to do a Time Machine backup.

You can turn Time Machine on and off in System preferences, Time Machine. When you want to do a backup connect the external, go into System Preferences, Time Machine and turn it on. Then in the TM Icon in the menu bar click it and select Backup now. Time Machine will do an incremental backup of data that has changed on your system since the last backup was made. Then when it finishes Tuen Time Machine off and Eject the TM external drive.
